NADIA
I tend to gravitate towards books that are either super sad or super weird. If I finish a book in hysterics, or I need to stare at a wall for an hour, I know I’ve had a good time. My go-to authors are Sally Rooney, Deborah Levy, Ottessa Moshfegh, Eliza Clark, Joan Didion, Eve Babitz and Maggie Nelson. What excites me most about being a bookseller is the opportunity to meet and discuss books with other people who are equally as passionate as I am. The book community feels like a symbiotic one where we’re all after good literature, and I think it’s incredible that we all benefit from one another. As an aspiring writer, I’m equally excited to be around brilliant people whose work I admire and pick their brains for any little bits of wisdom.
I would like to say my favourite place to read is a designated reading chair with adequate lighting but honestly, I’m usually in bed with the worst posture known to man, not having realised the sun has set. I want to say I’d read something like Lord of the Flies on a deserted island, just in case I’m stranded with someone else and want to assert my dominance. Otherwise, I’d take Jane Eyre as it is a huge comfort read for me and I could potentially have ‘my year of rest and relaxation’ myself until I was rescued.
