CHARITY DAY September 2025

In September, our Monthly Charity Day (Thursday September 11)— where we donate 15% of the value of each book sold in the shop and online to a charity or organisation that we love to support — will be in support of UNICEF’s Children of Gaza Crisis Emergency Appeal.

UNICEF’s Children of Gaza Emergency Appeal is a natural choice for us as we continue to be horrified by the continuing atrocities in Gaza. In August, famine was officially confirmed in Gaza City and surrounding areas for the first time. More than half a million people – children, parents, and grandparents – are trapped in unimaginable conditions of hunger, loss, and suffering.

After nearly two years of conflict, repeated displacement, and severe restrictions on humanitarian aid – families have exhausted every possible means of survival – people are now starving to death. Access to food, clean water, medical care, and support for farming and fishing has been cut off, while health systems and markets have collapsed.

UNICEF teams remain on the ground in Gaza providing emergency services across health, nutrition, clean water and child protection. This includes screening and treating children for malnutrition, providing psychosocial support to children and their caregivers, repairing damaged water infrastructure, and getting aid and lifesaving supplies in whenever possible.

UNICEF is calling for all parties to unconditionally protect children from harm, in accordance with human rights law. 

Last Charity Day in August with your support we were able to donate to Save the Children’s Emergency Gaza Appeal Children in Gaza have been paying the heaviest price for an unrelenting war they’ve played no part in. Save the Children is calling on the international community to take every possible step to stop the Government of Israel from intentionally starving children and families in Gaza. We continue to push for a definitive ceasefire and for increased humanitarian access, so children can get the help they so desperately need
